Scholarships

Scholarship of the Prime Minister

Who?
Students of schools for the youth the completion of which enables obtaining baccalaureate certificate.

Criteria:
A student who was promoted with honourable mention and at the same time had the highest grade point average in the school or showed outstanding talents in at least one field of knowledge in which he/she achieved the best results and at least good results in other fields.

Procedure:
Applications shall be prepared by the students council. If there is no students council – by a committee composed of 3 to 5 students chosen by all the students of a given school.

Applications shall be submitted to the school board. If there is no school board – to the teachers board, until 24 June of a school year before the school year in which the scholarship is to be granted.

The application shall include, in particular:

  • first name and surname of the candidate;
  • information about candidate’s compliance with the conditions justifying granting the scholarship.

The school board (or the teachers board) shall approve one candidate.

The approved application shall be submitted by the school headmaster to the chief education officer until 10 July of the school year before the school year in which the scholarship is to be granted.

The chief education officer shall check compliance of the application with conditions specified in Art. 90h of the Act of 7 September 1991 on the education system. Upon completion of a collective list, the officer shall submit the application – by the agency of the minister in charge of education – to the Prime Minister until 31 July of the school year before the school year in which the scholarship is to be granted.

The scholarship shall be granted to one student of a given school for the period from September until June of a given school year.

The scholarship shall be granted by the President of the Council of Ministers.

Amount of the scholarship:
The amount of the scholarship is specified by § 2 section 7 of the Regulation of the Council of Ministers of 14 June 2005 on scholarships granted by the President of the Council of Ministers, minister in charge of education and minister in charge of culture and national heritage (Dz. U. [Polish Journal of Laws] No. 106, item 890) and shall amount to PLN 2,580.

The scholarship shall be paid by the province governor in two instalments: until 30 November and until 30 April.

Scholarship of the minister in charge of education.

Who?
Students of public schools for the youth or non-public schools with rights of a public school for the youth.

Criteria:
Students with outstanding educational achievements, in particular:

  • winners of an international competition or winners and finalists of nationwide single-subject competitions or tournaments;
  • winners of contests for the best scholarly thesis organised by a scientific institution or association;
  • upper secondary school students with the best results according to an individualised educational programme or plan;
  • participants of university courses provided for in the programme of study in accordance with the study regulations concerning the requirements for participation of outstandingly talented students in courses provided for in the programme of study;
  • students with very good results in sports competitions at the national or international level.

Procedure:
Applications for the scholarship shall be submitted to the chief education officer by the teachers board of the school relevant for a given candidate, based on the resolution adopted after the annual classification and upon consulting the school board if it was established, until:

  • the last day of classes – in the case of students of final grades at the school;
  • 10 July – in the case of all other students.

The application shall include, in particular:

  • first name and surname of the candidate;
  • information about candidate’s compliance with the conditions justifying granting the scholarship.

The chief education officer shall submit applications for scholarship along with own opinion to the minister in charge of education until 30 July each year.

The scholarship shall be granted by the minister in charge of education.

Amount of the scholarship:
The amount of the scholarship is not specified by education-related regulations. Since 2011, it has been ca. PLN 3,000. The scholarship shall be paid by the minister in charge of education as one-off award.

Scholarship of the minister in charge for culture and national heritage protection.

Who?
Students of art schools providing education in an art profession who has completed the first year of education at a given art school type.

Criteria:
Students who had a very good point grade average in artistic and vocational subjects at the end of the term or winners of an international or national art competition.

Procedure:
The school headmaster shall submit the application for scholarship to the minister in charge of culture and national heritage protection until:

  • 15 April – in the case of students of final grades at the school;
  • 15 September – in the case of all other students.

The application shall include, in particular:

  • first name and surname of the candidate;
  • information about candidate’s compliance with the conditions justifying granting the scholarship.

Amount of the scholarship:
The amount of the scholarship is not specified by regulations. In 2012, the amount of the scholarship was PLN 4,200.

The scholarship shall be paid by the minister in charge of culture and national heritage protection as one-off payment, until:

  • 31 August – to students of final grades;
  • 31 December – to all other students.

Scholarship for school performance or sports achievements.

Who?
Students of all school types, except for students of grades 1-3 in a primary school and grade 4 in a primary school until completion of the first education term.

Criteria:
Students with high grade point average and at least good grade for behaviour in the term before the term in which the scholarship is granted.

Students with very good results in sports competitions at least at the inter-school level and at least good grade for behaviour in the term before the term in which the scholarship is granted.

Procedure:
Applications for a scholarship shall be submitted by the class tutor to the scholarship committee which shall forward the application along with its opinion to the school headmaster.

The scholarship shall be granted by the school headmaster upon consulting the teachers board.

Amount of the scholarship:
The amount of the scholarship is specified by § 2 section 7 of the Regulation of the Council of Ministers of 14 June 2005 on scholarships granted by the President of the Council of Ministers, minister in charge of education and minister in charge of culture and national heritage (Dz. U. [Polish Journal of Laws] No. 106, item 890) and shall amount to PLN 2,580.

According to the decision of the President of the Council of Ministers of 6 August 2013, 3,862 students of schools the completion of which enables obtaining baccalaureate certificate were granted scholarships for the school year 2013/2014.

The scholarship shall be paid by the province governor in two instalments: until 30 November and until 30 April.
